A healthy yearling bull with seven cows for 90 days should have had them all bred 2 or 3 times over if he missed the first time, etc. However, this is definitely not worth a "battle" with your father in law. I would think if he is a retested bull that there was something wrong on his end. Or you might have got a number of cows that were sold because they were open last year or at some time in the past ! In any case I would not get into an argument over this with a family member. Just chalk it up to experience and do something different this year. Selling the open cows and bull and buying proven guaranteed bred cows would be one way of avoiding the whole issue and start fresh without a bull for at least one year. Not good to publicly question your father in law. You may win the battle but lose the war as they say. And who knows what really happened... Good luck. Jim at Dawn
