Interesting that they only needed to add 4 tons of manure (20% dry matter *20 tons), to keep the soil in similar condition while removing 7-10 tons of dry matter in grain and stover.

20 tons sounds like a lot but in comparison to removal it's only 50%.

Look at it like that you can "rape" the land, full till it and it still maintains OM with some litter.
