As we all know, planting is partly science and partly art. The art part is even more important in NT since you must be tuned to minor changes in soil due to texture, moisture, trash, temperature, and other factors. It's difficult to answer your question completely; but Mr. Ed has come close. Get fertility right, ensure drainage is optimal, catch a warming trend and plant. If you can till you can be planting. Once you get comfortable with it you will be ready to expand your NT. I am always amazed at how people will live through problems and crop failures of all kinds when the are using tillage; but let a problem arise in NT and they instantly blame the system without considering that it might be common circumstance or their own human error.
