| Hey guys, this is my first year with SF1 and John deere's autosteer.I had haukass markers before but they won't fit on the new drill. very happy with the autosteer, 8330 JD MfWD pulling 1830 JD air drill. What I don't like is the starfire 1. My sprayer is double the size of my drill so I offset my drill 4 inches so that I have a little over lap on one pass and a tramline on the next pass. The sprayer guy follows the tramline in the spring and fall and it works great.
The problem I'm having on the SF1, especially on mile long fields, more so if i'm seeding north south, Is that I may have a 14 inch tramline when I start my pass but by the time I get to the end it could be 24 inches wide, or if i'm working from the other side of the field there won't be any tramline. This thing runs very very straight but the satellite drift seems excessive with SF1.
OK, now you understand what I"m trying to do, now I played a bit today with my 3 days of free SF2, didn't even know it was there till I read a post here a few pages away. Now is this really SF2 or is my receiver only a SF1? I thought SF1 and SF2 had different GPS beacons, but maybe I'm thinking of GS! and GS2. This is all new to me. So after I switched to the free SF2 for a few hours , I had a lot better tramline system, with less drift, and no punching of the numbers to move over all the time. Maybe it was a fluke but I"ve only got 1 field left to do this spring seeding so can't give it much more demoing.
So was I actually using SF2 or was it on SF1 but said SF2? I could switch it back and forth as I was going but it didn't give me any knowledge.
RTK won't ever work here for me and SF1 works so- so as it runs straight, just not parallel as I want it to be. If I didn't need that tramline for spraying and could just overlap a little on each pass it wouldn't be a problem.
Are the other systems working better than this with the waas system?
It would be nice to put the GPS and autosteer in the sprayer tractor too but need to run all the tractors at the same time. Eventually it might get one but the tramline works well for us.
any responses are appreciated.
thanx
