Subject: Re: Dextrose

Warm dextrose injected in the gut will revive an animal that looks like it is dead. IIRC when a newborn is cold for very long it's blood sugar level drops. If it's blood sugar is too low it it can not suck, swallow, shiver, or digest.

The dextrose is absorbed directly into the blood stream which allows the newborn to digest the milk and (hopefully) survive. Kind-of like using ether to start a diesel engine.

For piglets 3 -6cc, lambs 15cc, calves (guess)maybe 100cc.

If the newborn is just a little bit slow, Pepsi (sugar + caffeine) in the mouth, can give them enough spunk to find mama and start nursing.
