ecmn | its not a big deal, its there to help the techs, a piece of equipment is brought in, if the problem is new to the tech he can go to dt and see if there is any info about it. they can do a serial number search and see what work has been logged for that tractor as well. the general public is not missing anything. if there piece of equipment has a recall or update a good service manager is getting it taken care of.
there is also a phone line to an engineer if the tech finds something new or has a question. can you imagine every joe out there tying up them lines.
the last thing as a technition you want is a customer who thinks he knows it all but for some reason cant do it himself. get a bunch of "dtac says" or look at this print out kinda crap. i would probably be fired or quiting if it got that way, bad enough that once a year you had to tell a guy that maybe he should be fixing it.
then you would have the guys that didnt notice a serial number break or something that took there tractor out of the dt info that they found, then they come in wondering why there 10 year old tractor never had updates, then the service manager is spending all day reading peoples paper work they found on there tractor to see if it fits or not, running serial numbers to see if the work got done or not.
ever take your car to a repair shop? they have the same internet type of thing, they buy into the software so they can use it. | |
