NW KS | You can fix the heating coil but it depends on if the whole coil is getting thin or if it is just damage in certain areas. I have fix a couple of them that have froze. First one went to a local welder and the second one I did myself. The way I did the repair was to stretch out the heating coil until I could just my wire welder. I would then open up the crack with a small cutoff wheel on an air grinder and weld the spot back shut. Depending on how far I needed to move a coil a time I would use the cutting torch to heat the coil so I could bend it easier. I would pressurize the whole coil with compressed air and check it in a large tank. Took several tries but after a while no more bubbles. When finished I took a couple of high lift jacks and moved the tops down and used them like big clamps to press everything back together. Then you tack the coils with the welder where needed to hold everything together. | |
