had a central vac with unit in basement. 
1st  piece of advice, put power unit in garage. 
2nd, use only 45 or long sweep elbows.
3rd, get the wall plates that have prongs in them as compared to ones
       that power the unit on when you open the door. little toy cars, Barbie doll accessories and Easter eggs are
       a B to get out of the line.
4th, make sure there is an outlet next to or close to each port,,,you will want a power head.
5th have a preplanned spot for thirty foot of hose with attached cord.
and finally. the most used an best feature we had was the toe kick dust pan in the kitchen :)
that was used long after she abandoned the python hose (she called it fighting the snake) and bought her Oreck's.
