Wisconsin | There sure wouldn't have been many! The 1820 population of WI was 1,444, obviously not counting Indians, or a lot of halfbreeds either! Wheat was being grown in WI and MN at that time and would be booming through the middle 1800's. Fort Crawford across the river had been active and burned by the British in the war of 1812. Jefferson Davis was in command of the fort before and during the Blackhawk war c1832.
If you ever get through Lansing IA, stop at the museum on the river road south of town, for all ages, very impressive for what it is. | |
