Subject: 25 Years of GM Crops

I realized today that approximately 25 years ago GM crops were first commercialized. RR soybeans, BT Corn, LL Canola, BT cotton, etc.
I also was thinking back at advancement in equipment the last 25 years.

What technology had the biggest impact on your operation?
Seed Traits? Better Equipment? Your knowledge /experience?

Here is how I would rank them.
1. RR soybeans, made growing soybeans so much easier
2. Auto steer, a simple innovation but something most people would not want to go without.
3. LL Canola, herbicide resistance trait made this a viable crop in North America, tremendous increase in acres.
4. Precision planting correct depth, singulation, row clutches, high speed, RX, all features that impact yield potential
5. BT Cotton, went from making 8 - 10 passes to making 3- 5 passes over the field
6. BT Corn, root worm was a impactful trait, corn borer trait is interesting to think about the value today....
7. Yield mapping, don't think we have fully taken advantage of the potential here, but using data to make decisions is the way to go.
8. Sprayers, better application, wider booms, monitors, less overlaps etc.

What am I missing, advances in fertilizer, cropping practices, vertical tillage, etc.
Just a few thoughts.......
