Subject: Y drops vs Coulter machines vs dribbled on top?

NE SD
Just wondering if anyone has done side by sides of all of these methods of applying 28 in season.
I know it would be a lot of work to get a true test [same field same application time same corn variety and many others]. And I’m sure it depends how soon and what amount of rain after application. Or is the Idea with Y drops to use less N?
The last 3 years we have went away from the coulter type machine to justt dropping 28 with a simple stick that hangs from sprayer boom on 30” centers. Yes I burn some corn leaves and it looks pretty bad for a few days but we have seen no yield difference vs the coulter.
Also we did not like the way the coulter machine split the soil open.
The Y drop method looks good in theory but does it truly work the way the claim. It also is very expensive add on to sprayer and it appears it would be a super slow application process and what about corners? Do the Y drops break corn off?
I’m wanting side by side yield results from each process if anyone has them.
Thanks
