Subject: John Deere VRT questions

We are looking at a John Deere 7920 with the variable rate transmission. We test drove one on a couple different occasions and I think that they would take a little time to get used to but would be quite nice. How long have those been out? How well do those transmissions stand up? Anyone out there using one of Deeres VRT tractors and how many hours do you have on it? Any major problems or dislikes you have found? We would use it to plant and we use two Rawson drives to run our planter units. If the tractor is only running at say 1300rpm pulling the planter through the field, is it going to have enough hydraulics to run two Rawson drives and pick the planter up going into the headlands? We use a JD4640 to plant right now and we typically have to keep the rpms @ about 1500 to keep everything running smoothly. Tractor is rated @ 170hp I believe. Dealer says it will put out about 190. Anyone had one on a dyno? How about fuel economy. Are they really as fuel efficient as what they claim as long as your not working the heck out of them?
