I am very sad to report that one of our machinists was killed this morning in a bicycle/pickup truck accident on his way to work at Dawn Equipment Co.

This employee regularly rode his bicycle to work on 2-lane rural roads and died after being struck by a pickup truck reported to be traveling at a high rate of speed about 6:30 am. The exact circumstances/cause of this fatal accident remain under investigation by the DeKalb County IL sheriff department.

This Dawn employee leaves a wife and young children. His death is a reminder to all of us as to the fragility of human life and how we should value each other and life itself each and every day. None of us knows how many more we have left. May John RIP. Your prayers would be appreciated.

I post this here in the hope that other cyclists, both bicycle and motorcycle, and motorists will use care, and watch out for each other, especially in twilight conditions.  With shorter daylight coming and constant distractions when we are driving, let's do what we all can to avoid this happening. this seems to have been an avoidable accident.
