Subject: Converting Case IH 183 cult. to sidedress rig

Humeston, IA

I have a 12RN Case IH 183 RC cultivator.  Since I don't cultivate much, if all, I'm considering converting this into a side-dress rig for 28% UAN.

Have any of you tried this, either with the 183 or other cultivator?  I was thinking I'd remove the left and right shovels/shanks on each row, and put a knife w/tube on the rear center shank.  Each unit has a depth wheel, but maybe it would be better to adapt a depth wheel/coulter combo from a ridge till cultivator to slice through residue (would probably no-till into SB stubble with this rig).

Also would consider either A) putting on saddle tanks and moving the Raven system and hydraulic driven pump from the sprayer, or B) build a hitch and pull the pull-type sprayer behind the rig, but diverting the flow from the booms to the cultivator knives.

What do you think?  Thanks!
