dloc - 6/12/2006 20:32 Have been following Iowa Soybean Association side-by-side strip trials for liquid vs anhydrous. Substantially more efficient use of anhydrous translates to less dollars per bushel of yield (a lot if you side-dress) and a reasonable likelihood of environmental bonus points in future government payment programs. I was thinking of putting down a base rate of say 60 lbs/ac of NH3 before hand, then coming back and sidedressing the rest (60 lbs/ac), if possible, to get better efficiency. How is NH3 more efficient in utilization than UAN? Also, in terms of environmental points, wouldn't side-dressing in general be considered favorable, regardless of N source? Can you tell us more about the ISA side-by-side tests and efficiency? Not trying to disagree with you, but just want a clearer picture and line of reasoning. |
