Subject: Another turning on the lathe question

West Texas
I am slowly learning on this 18” Clausing colchester lathe when I have a little extra time. I really appreciate all of the great info that you guys have had for me. I was turning this 1 1/2” 1018 down and it doesn’t seem to be doing a smooth cut but I really don’t know what to expect. I was running 300 rpm and .003 I/R for the feed. My cutting depth was .030 total per cut or .015 per side. What should my depth of cut be and feed rate? I know you guys mentioned using better steel so that is my plan but this is what I had.
