Subject: Crop Rotation Options After Drought Corn

Prairie Home MO
We’re in the middle of a D2 drought. For awhile in July I’m not sure we shouldn’t have been a D3. Corn appears like it’s going to be a bust. Poor pollination in places, tipped back significantly, and fired/ dead plants in places. What I’ve walked it’ll range from 0-100 with a best guess on avg of 60-80. Nh3 was applied in May right before planting. 150-180 units actual was applied depending on field. I hate to waste $1600/ton Nh3. Would you:
Plant corn again next year and try to utilize some of the leftover N?

Plant wheat this fall for same reasons?

Or say heck with it and rotate to beans like normal?

I’m tempted to do some COC and some wheat but man that’s expensive. Is there a reliable soil test that I could take Oct 1st or so to get an idea of how much N is left? I’m thinking there’s gotta be some N left over with no more rain than we’ve had. What would you do?
