Your comment on the platoon guide brought back memories of Basic in Ft Ord 1962. After we left reception, we were standing in formation and the drill sgt asked if there was any prior military. There was two and he made them platoon guides. Then he asked for any NG and there was one. He also got to be a platoon guide. Then the sgt asked if there was anyone else. Nobody said anything so I popped off and said I was in the boy scouts. Yep, I was also a platoon guide with no JP and no guard duty. Three years in the Army and pulled KP 1 time during President Kenney's Cuban crisis alert. We went on field training and were no allowed to take the civilian KP's with us that one time. I did pull guard duty several times after I arrived at my duty station in Italy.
