Central Illinois | When I was in school, they taught us how the wild fire cleaned the forest of the dead trees and undergrowth. Then the heat from the flames warmed the soil and allowed the seeds, which had fallen to the ground years before, to germinate. They were teaching us about the cycle of life. This is how the earth takes care of itself. The fire released carbon dioxide which is amazingly just part of what the forest needs to grow.
They also taught us how when forests were harvested the same cycle happened without the fire. Some of the lumber was used to build many things and some for fuel.
