nw NC | Only 5 left operating in North Carolina. One of those opened in 2016.
There were lots of them when I was growing up in the late 50's and 60's. Nearest one was 5 miles from here , two more about about 10 miles , and some more at 15-25 miles.
The last time we flew to Minnesota for vacation ( 2016), I saw one from the airplane as it was on approach to O'Hare Airport in Chicago. I made a picture of it (below) I just now located it on Google Maps satellite view (below). Google searched it and found it is one of only two left in Illinois.
