Oh, I understand the physiology of it alright but or at least your theory but I don't believe it. If the current good/excellent conditions continue for another month and there is no substantial stress (too hot @ night or drought) the leaf area and resources already accumulated in the stem will fill those kernels just fine.
Remember, good growing conditions will delay plant maturity and senescence not speed it up.
Now if the corn belt gets a dry August that could reduce grain fill.
PS: we had 16 inches rain last year both in June & July each and the early planted corn similar to that shown in Conan's pictures did just fine. It was the later planted corn that experienced the nitrogen loss in June that suffered yield loss.
If it stops rain and drys up a bit, Conan's corn will do just fine. (I think?)
I suspect that the insurance appraisers would still call that a great crop coming. The beans a different story. They better spray for mildew, though.
