"Today’s hybrids handle heat during pollination way better than they did years ago" - Incorrect. 2012 proved that. I never mowed down any corn in 83, 88, 91 or any other years that were just as hot as 2012. If anything, the opposite is true. What is available for seed are racehorse varieties. The toughness has been bred out for high yield and fast drydown in good conditions.

............and yes, I would still buy and plant Dekalb DK132 or an equivalent (I'm sure it was in many colored bags) from 30 years ago if I still could. Never seen a hybrid on my farm make more out of less since then.
