Subject: RE: Opened cover crop for grazing - follow up

Central North Carolina

Gotcha, back when i had cows rapeseed work well this time of year for the cows and is about the same thing as turnips. Now I buy 400-500 lb. calves in the fall and utilize winter annuals till summer, as we have little snow and ice to deal with. I am kind of a small time guy and like experiments like you.

If brassica would work on stocker calves i could same money and get grazing earlier each fall. I just can't find anyone who has really tried it before and all the research is on grazing stockers on wheat and the like in the South.  When i try to play rye too early i get a lot of bugs and worms to deal with.
