Yet you said you buy the calves without the paperwork knowing that some of the calves may have been worked 1-14 days prior to sale day.
So your rewarding guys that are misrepresenting the program.
I doubt the producer was trying to screw anyone, I would bet he is a dirt farmer with 5000 acres of corn and a few cows on the back 40 that reads how everyone should "add value to your calves green tag em". So he puts a few dollars worth of shots in them on the way to the barn thinking he is doing the right thing. If your buying 99% of your calves without paperwork he's not the only one abusing the program.

So you might be able to lean on the vet with the dirty needle but as far as the cow guy working them on the way to the barn it sounds like a common practice up there ( though a very poor one) .
So it sounds like the morel of the story is, if your going to pay a premium get the paperwork. |
