Aurelia, Iowa | I live 45 miles west of Manson and we're in a little bit better shape but we're living on fumes. We have good dirt here but we've only had an inch of rain in July and 1.5 inches in June. Many areas around us have had less than that. I rode the first two days of Ragbrai ( the bike ride across Iowa) and much of that area (Orange City to Algona) is hurting for moisture as well. There were some good areas on that route. We're starting to see some kernel aborting and it's only going to get worse. I guess that the key word is that the yield will be highly variable. On the bright side at least harvest is getting easier! | |
