Subject: recreational tillage?

South-central ohio
What do you guys consider "recreational tillage"? I wouldnt really say that there is much of it done around here. We do have one big operation that likes to do their fall chiseling for COC, then run turbo tills over it 2-3 times in the spring on top of their nh3 pass. They also like to hit stalks twice with a TT and completely pulverize their stalks then plant beans. This to me is a little excessive but to each his own. It seems like the guys that do it must have some reason, other than for fun. Fuel and equipment is too expensive and margins are too tight. Just looking for some thoughts/opinions.
