That's an interesting question. Typically, we worry about roots for lodging issues, standability and overall plant health, but I'm at a loss on your relating it to borderline fungicide hybrids. Really suggest you pass that one by your extension guys. Sorry I can't help you with that.
It would help to know where you are farming as well.
