There is more to agriculture, but not much more of importance in THIS country. Corn and Soybeans are the largest commodities by tonnage and value. There are the most traded agricultural commodities. They are the drivers of ag-related manufacturing at Deere, CNH, and AGCO. They also impact truck and trailer manufacturing and are a major source of rail and barge traffic. They have bigger impacts on banking and insurance than other commodities. They are important to fuel and oil and bioproducts. They are necessary to cattle and hog production (which Iowa is #1 at), therefore corn and soybeans are necessary to meatpacking and the food and restaurant industries. Corn and soybeans are the most important agricultural products in this country and it's not even close. Their indirect impacts outweigh all the others. | |
