Subject: 4 places to visit to feel more thankful for those who served

Kankakee, IL
1- Arizona Memorial
2- Tomb of the Unknown Soldier
3- Mount Rushmore during flag lowering ceremony with the Veterans present.
4- WW2 Museum in New Orleans (Best museum I have ever been to)

14 years ago my wife and I were fortunate to go to Hawaii. As soon as we made the hotel we were fortunate to meet an older gentleman who was traveling with his two grown kids. This was his first time back to Pearl Harbor since the war had ended. He had been a small wiry farm kid who had already joined the service because of hard times on the farm. He was stationed, I believe, on the Nevada during the attack and was in the water near the Arizona when it blew up. Survived the war and returned home but NEVER spoke of his service to his children. His wife who had recently died didn't want him to speak of his service, so he didn't. Gracious gentlemen who told his story that day to anyone who asked. He found us several more times on that trip and continued to tell us of his experiences during the war. He was and is a true National Treasure. Wish I had remembered his name. He reminded me of my own grandfather from Michigan who had already passed away.

God Bless All of our Veterans!
