North of London | The coin kind of named itself with the loon, which almost everyone recognizes, floating on one side.
History might have been changed when they lost the original dies.
If not for the loss our dollar coin might have been named differently and then of course the $2 coin picked up the name from the loonie and became the twoonie.
I think there were several names floated for the twoonie but they did not stick and so we have these 2 names. | |
