| received an email earlier today describing a webinar that will probably be well worth the time for anyone remotely interested in organic no-till
Mark Doudlah, an innovative farmer in central Wisconsin will discuss his experience with organic no-till corn and soybeans on February 2, 2017.
here are some of the practices that Mark will describe:
- 3 bu /a "Aroostook" cereal rye planted as early as possible in the fall (Aroostock is an early flowering variety)
- soybeans planted in mid-May, 10 days to 2 weeks before crimping the rye
- corn planted into hairy vetch, 10 days to 2 weeks before crimping the vetch
- both corn and beans are several inches tall during crimping but are not significantly damaged
- both corn and beans are on 15" rows planted with RTK guidance
- crimper used in fall to flatten cornstalks and increase soil contact.
I don't know what fraction of Mark's corn and beans are planted using the practices described above but I know he has multiple years of experience on a significant acreage.
I will share more details about how to view the webinar when I receive them.
