If you buy a piece of used equipment from a private individual and you are not sure of their honesty, it would be wise for you to do a search. Otherwise you might find that you paid for the machine but a bank has a lien against it. Then you might either get to pay the bank for the machine again or the bank comes out and takes possession because it is legally theirs after they reposes it. Can happen with cattle too. Not usually a problem in normal times. But if some farmers get desperate for cash....................... Just because you paid for it, does not mean you own it if someone else has a previous claim to it. John
