Warren County, Mo | I thought about that Ben, the reason I'm looking at the endophyte free (novel) is that once its in and as long as its not allowed to thin out, the infected can't get a foothold.
I see your point though, if you see fescue you know what it is....
The cost is high, certainly higher than I want, and were it not for the low weight gains, I probably wouldn't give it much thought. Surprisingly a neighbor is running 75 head of cow/calves and said he's never replanted, grazes his cattle all winter and summer and has never had a problem. Either he's been extremely lucky, or lying through his teeth. His pastures is just like mine, just grazed down farther, maybe that's helping him some.
I suppose I could spray it this fall, plant a winter crop like wheat, harvest it off, spray again, and then overseed next fall. but that means its sitting idle through the summer or I have to plant a summer crop, and I wouldn't have enough time to harvest the wheat (or graze it off) and then plant something like beans.
Sometimes I hate Missouri ;)
