The official method from the U of M Extension and Agronomy department is as follows:
Spray / Smother / Spray method
1. Mid May - Spray to kill off fescue.
2. 7 to 10 days later plant summer cover crop, beans was the suggested crop.
3. After harvest, spray again to kill off any residual fescue still growing.
4. 7 to 10 days later drill new Novel Seed.
