Buried cable inside an old garden hose to carry the load with a bright white Gallagher slinky gate and end fittings works very well for me. This way slinky is not energized hot when you open the gate handle. In a pinch I have used the gate to complete the circuit without problems, just need to be careful when opening or closing to unhook both ends and hang on the bull nose insulator connecting wire. I hang the slinky on the 9 gage post-to-bull nose connecting wire when it's open. Tangling doesn't seem to be a problem. Never had a Hereford even challenge any slinky gate. Key for corrosion is to have gate hook and latch both heavily galvanized steel. These kits are expensive but work well for years. I do prefer the kit with the flat steel, heavily hot-dip galvanized gate handle rather then the round, cold galvanized wire gate handle shown.
