I dont know but I dont think it is electrolysis like with copper and aluminum. How about loosely wrapping a wire around your rope from end to end? I use that turbowire a lot and in some spots I have taken the wide 1" tape and loosely wrapped it around it maybe even leaving a gap to discourage calves from going under. It helps with visibility (me and the cattle).
