middle TN | Like you, I have given up on the slinky gates. They are just too much of a pain when they get tangled up, and I still have cows walk through them even when hot. I have started using the same type of poly-braided rope with a spring, or a spring type handle. The only solution to keep the other sections of fence hot is to not depend on the rope gates to carry the load. The gates are only hot when hanging. I surmised that the poly can't handle the current flow if you get a short, and when you do get a short or a weed load on a section of fence fed by the poly wire, the contact point between the handle and wire is where the spark shows up, making the corrosion worse at the handle. I have ran the current under the gates with lead-out wire, or over the top using electric fence wire. This has helped some. I don't think the poly is tough enough to handle the stress of supplying a fence load. | |
