Subject: RE: Front mount row cultivator

NW Central Ohio
..I have to tell you. in the early 70's when I started cultivating corn, soybeans and sugar beets...we had a front mount cultivator for doing very precise work on the sugar beets (Would leave a 3" strip between two cut-away discs). That was the most unforgiving cultivator we had to run. You didn't dare lose your concentration or you would be ripping a fair amount of crop out. We learned over the years that a rear mount cultivator set up with a guide system (Narrow rib or solid "V" shaped tires) that followed a trench made by a device on the planter was a lot easier to use. There is enough give in the 3 point hitch to allow operator error without causing a huge mistake. I hate the idea of having to go back to cultivating....but with the current weed/herbicide situation...it might be the only option we have.
