Biggest thing I have found its to take your time and let everything on the planter work the way it should. I do some custom planting and will move along at 6.5 mph if the field is smooth enough. Into the rye I'll go 5.3-5.5 mph. Yes, it takes longer but you only have one chance to plant correctly the first time. Tried some triticale this year and that was difficult. Much larger root crown than the rye and caused more unit bounce while planting. Very slow going there. I will start the soybean planter as soon as I can and not uncommon at the end of corn planting to do both at the same time. Funny observation by my son this year was that you seem to be moving much faster at 5.5 in 3-4' tall rye than 6.5 in worked ground.

It has taken me 3+ years of lowering population to plant at that rate.
