Subject: RE: Update on pivot mishap

It's a Reinke. They are unique in the industry by having a neutral safety. Any connection of the safety lead to either a ground or neutral completes the circuit. any normally closed safety switch after the point of this short no longer functions as a means to break the continuity. Think of it this way, take a 120 volt magnetic coil of a contactor and apply 120 volts ac 'line' to one terminal and the other terminal to the white neutral of the 120 volt supply. Now put a series of normally closed limit switches in the neutral lead vs. putting them in the 'line' side. any short to either ground or neutral between the coil terminal and the first limit switch completes the circuit and the coil remains energized. It will not matter if you open any of the limit switches the circuit still functions as if nothing is wrong. Other pivot manufacturers would put their limit switches on the 'line' side of the 120 volt supply. Therefore any short on this 'line' side would blow the 120 volt control circuit supply therefore causing the coil to stop operating. I can't understand why Reinke has stayed with this for so long other than it probably reduces cost by about 40$ per unit.
