sw ontario
The pig guys in the middle '80's prospered ,there was times of $100 pig profit ,if '80's had not happened I would not have much land, buying opportunities if you had some cash and were young (early '30's) and naive......difference then and now was farm liquidations/bankrupcties the guys ended up driving truck or working in factory, can't remember any of them getting back in farming . Seen this scenario twice, in 70's when corn went too $4 cash grain farmers had no problem telling you how stupid you were for feeding livestock and how livestock stole there $1 corn yrs. before.......then in '08 or so when corn went too $8 the cash grain guys had no problem telling you 2 things you are stupid feeding livestock and we have ethanol now and don't need your feed business and to top it off "screw you guys as livestock guys stole corn from me for $3 yrs. ago" .......... any similarties ? fwiw we pretty much grow all our own feed and sell soys,corn........and guys with big mouths usually end up getting a chance to pay there dues.......and good grain prices long term are good for land based livestock guys
