It's pretty easy to see how long you can go. Not long. Take the chain off the dry fertlizer on a planter and plant a round without it and compare the side by side results. It lets you know pretty quickly where you didn't fertilize. Unfortunately a lot of guys use the surplus and when it's gone it takes a long time to build it back up.
