I've always thought the soil is a long term deposit or withdrawl from the soil.

What I spread for P and K this year is going to be used over the next 5 years or so.

If I skip this year, it will be a very minor blip for the year.

Might actually show up more 3-4 year from now as a yield dip?

If I just stop applying, I would think previous fertilizing would carry me out 3,4, maybe 5 years.

Then I would hit the cliff, and things would be used up.

Then it would take 2-3 years of application to start seeing positive yields again.

All will depend on what your fertility levels are right now.

And what kind of soil you have, higher CEC, organic types that store and mieralize out a lot, or thin sandy stuff. That would make a huge difference.
