East Troy, WI | We have enough grain - or potential acres - to fuel a fleet of electric (and /or plug in electric) passenger vehicles and plug-in hybrid electric medium and heavy duty vehicles. Natural gas will be the leading contender for base load capacity for next decade, then nuclear (yes, there are plenty of new permits being processed) and solar will augment mid-day peaks with consumer owned (point of use) arbitrage becoming viable. See the Tesla Powerwall. Point of use solar is already viable if you buy wholesale and self install. This is causing a lot of backlash in conventional utility industry. See Nevada. Though I agree with grid connected users having higher monthly fees - reselling at the distribution level is a double standard IMHO. Something close (maybe not at) to net metering is probably more fair.
Renewable fuels market should be aiming to fuel medium duty and heavy duty vehicles, and optimized engine for plug-in hybrid light trucks, etc. There would be plenty of carb and protein resulting in real opportunities for livestock. However, I suspect many more proteins will be plant based in the future. Depends on what pans out in Asia regarding there long term diet habits, though.
We in ag can have our cake and eat it too. |
