Subject: RE: farming ground

SE Iowa
Who is farming it now? With grandpa being 87 I assume he isn't. And 87 isn't young. So this could be very short term. Profit on 105 bu corn will be very small and most probably a loss. Maybe run cows on it if it is fenced? Fencing is not cheap either, especially on rented ground and 87 year old landlord. Talk to your uncles and get some advice and possible help with machinery. This could be a good chance for you but you have to get some numbers down on paper for the bank with someone's help, either an uncle or a good neighbor you have been helping. My big concern is grandpa at 87 and plans for the land when he passes. Hard to farm rented land that may be sold a year or two down the road.
