Subject: RE: strip till fertilizer savings??

Humeston, IA
Refer to point 3, per Dr Mallarino at Iowa State University:

http://crops.extension.iastate.edu/cropnews/2015/09/make-rational-d...

He does not recommend lowering application rates for strip-till.

He also didn't find any significant increase in yield through deep placement of P or K. He does say that deep banding K in strip till may have benefit in some situations, but not widespread. Of course, this is for Iowa soils (silty clay loams, silt loams, and loams), so the response could be different for sandier soils.

IMHO a benefit of strip till is soil erosion control through reduced tillage, but being able to lower fertilizer rates vs recommended is not one.
