Subject: strip till fertilizer savings??

Im curious how by strip tilling you are saving large amounts on fertilizer. If you have a 200bu crop you remove 70 pounds of P and 50lbs of K regardless of what method you used to apply it. Im sure strip till has merit in the fact you have a "hot zone" that the roots can get into and really take off. But still by cutting rates to say a 50-35 arent you just mining your soil?
