Sanilac Co. Michigan | Just my opinion, but I think you start off with a cleaner stand of wheat when they are drilled after drilled, narrow row soybeans. Like 7" or 8". I think it's because the previous bean canopy smothers the weeds. If you really use your imagination, you might claim that the wheat seedling roots have a greater and more well distributed system of old soybean root channels to follow throughout the growing season. That might give them an edge in sourcing fertility over those planted into the remains of 30" soybeans? I dunno for sure, but do solid seeded soybeans produce more residue than rowed beans? That could be good for a succeeding wheat crop if spread evenly.
