Subject: RE: wheat after soybeans

I used to drill all my beans with JD750 on 7.5" spacing, then no till wheat with it in Fall, no problems. Like others said though, get your combine to manage the residue with chaff spreader and chopper fins set to make the straw even ( I will say I like my fine cut chopper better than the old single blade cut ) . I been planting beans with Kinze in 15" rows for past 3 years, and still no till the wheat with the JD750, with no difference in wheat yield. I spread my fertilizer after drilling the wheat, so fertilizer does not get on drill gangs and start more rusting / corrosion. We have done spreading before drilling and noticed no difference, yield wise or emergence, other than the corrosion issue. Some think that the drill helps incorporate the fertilizer a little if spread ahead of drill, and it probably does to a certain extent.
