I know the theory of phantom yield loss I am just curious if anyone believes it or has any research on the subject?
I think actual scientific research is inconclusive. From what I've tried to find out about the subject is: "Phantom" yield loss is not something that any research facility has been able to reproduce consistently, and those who have claimed they have have holes in their research.
There are other reasons for early harvest like header loss, field losses, threshing losses, warm ambient temps for lower gas usage. But for now, and until someone explains to me where the weight went, I wouldn't invest in any "phantom" losses.
I really don't know how you harvest 25% moisture corn without a lot of damage to the grain. I harvested 23% in 2009 and it was terrible to handle, and never want to deal with anything that wet again. I had a lot of grain damage, and then it got moldy easy. I'm okay with 21%, but really like 18-20% the best. |
